The GPS team are keen foodies and supporters of the recent campaign for better conditions for chickens.
We asked the following poser: Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is taking a fox, a free-range chicken, and a bag of organic grain home to River Cottage. To get there, he must cross a river, but he's only allowed to take one item across the bridge with them at a time. If the fox is left alone with the chicken, the fox will eat the chicken. If the chicken is left alone with the grain, the chicken will eat the grain. How can Hugh cross the river without any of his possessions being eaten?
ANSWER
Take the chicken across and leave it on the other side (although be careful as it is free-range that it doesn’t fly off). Then go back. Get the fox and bring it to the other side and take the chicken back with you. Take the grain to the other side and leave it there. Then go back and get the chicken. Take them all home, kill the chicken and make a superb Coq-au-Vin live on TV.
The winner of a copy of River Cottage Meat Book and a copy of River Cottage Fish Book, both written by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, is Sarah Fisher.
